Triglav
An
opportunity to ascend Triglav occurred on the occasion of our family trip.
During the holidays of 2004 we took a two week journey to Slovenia and
Croatia. We spent the first week in Slovenia in the Julian Alps at the
Bohinj Lake. The weather was very good and we undertook several trips in
the neighborhood. On one of them we could see the majestic profile of
Triglav afar. I decided to ascend it then.
Respecting the
distance and height I set off alone. The rest of our family chose
a sight-seeing trip around the lake. I started by driving from our camp to
the settlement Rudno Polje on 12 August 2004 early in the morning.
Continuing on foot, the track led over
several ridges, past the hut
Vodnikov dom, up to the hut
Dom Planika lying at the foothills of the
upper part of Triglav. On my way I could see beautiful flowers growing on
rocks.
As I got
closer to the mountain, I could gradually distinguish its three peaks –
three heads, which gave this name to it (Triglav means three‑headed). From
the hut Dom Planika my ascent continued up the south wall on the
top ridge.
The ridge with fixed cables led me over the
east head to the
summit. I
arrived there before noon.
The view
from the top was beautiful. Or more precisely it would have been if there
had been fewer clouds. But even so it was worthwhile. Only “that thing” on
the top seemed strange to me. But it was suitable as a housing for goods
(t-shirts and beer), which a local guy was selling (see the picture on the
left). I returned by the same
way and arrived at our camp quite tired but full of a wonderful
experience.
We had
the opportunity to see Triglav once more. That time from
another angle
from the mountain Visevnik, which the whole family hiked. It was a great
experience for the children because for the first time they reached the
altitude of 2000 m. The next day we journeyed onward to a very nice
Croatian island. But that is a different story. |
